Local legislators and airport leaders gathered to celebrate the groundbreaking of a new parking garage facility at Austin-Bergstrom International Airport (AUS). The multilevel Yellow Garage, which will replace the facility’s existing Red Garage, will open in two phases from 2026-2027 and will create approximately 7,000 parking spaces for AUS travelers. The new garage will feature a dedicated entrance; stacked entry and exit ramps to improve traffic; an open space detection system; and dedicated electric vehicle (EV) charging stations. The $265-million project, which is self-funded through airport cash reserves, current and future airport revenues, and future revenue bond proceeds, is being designed and built in partnership with Austin Commercial and PGAL. The site of the Red Garage will become the airport’s new Arrival and Departures Hall as part of the airport’s Journey With AUS expansion and renovation project.
“This new garage is a key investment in delivering a smooth and efficient experience for our passengers and serves as a cornerstone of AUS’s long-term vision for a world-class airport,” said AUS CEO Ghizlane Badawi. “The Yellow Garage sets the stage for the transformational redevelopment of the Barbara Jordan Terminal’s Arrival & Departure Hall. Its construction and opening mark a critical step forward, bringing us closer to breaking ground on modernized front-of-house experience for all passengers.”
“The Journey With AUS expansion program is making incredible progress,” added Austin Mayor Kirk Watson. “In just the past year, we’ve broken ground on major projects like the West Infill Expansion and Midfield Taxiways. The International Arrivals Improvements, which will be completed later this year, will significantly cut down on how long international travelers will spend waiting for bags. Today, we’re celebrating another milestone with the groundbreaking of the Yellow Garage, clearing the way for even bigger improvements ahead.”
