RDU To Open Terminal 2 In October

Raleigh-Durham International’s (RDU) first new passenger facility in more than 20 years is slated to open Oct. 26.

Terminal 2 will open in two phases, the second in winter 2011. The first phase will feature a design reflecting the Research Triangle Region’s history of crafts, industry and technology; 40 electronic kiosks in the check-in area; one IT infrastructure; more than 25 shops and restaurants; 19 boarding gates; and a new processing area for international travelers.

Final preparations for the terminal include the implementation of the IT infrastructure, training, equipment testing, and completion of shops and restaurants.

The new terminal replaces Terminal C, built as a hub for American Airlines in 1987.
