YFC Terminal Expansion Project Gains Funding

Fredericton International Airport (YFC) has officially gotten funding for its terminal expansion project. The province of New Brunswick and the Fredericton International Airport Authority have reached an agreement to fund the planned expansion.

The terminal at YFC exceeded its intended capacity more than 10 years ago. In the past five years alone, airport passenger traffic has grown 33 percent. This and the addition of two new year-round carriers has placed an increasing strain on the airport’s infrastructure.

The expansion will increase the size of YFC’s terminal by 50 percent and will include several improvements that will enhance travelers’ experience. These improvements include more efficient traffic flow for check-in passengers; the addition of several post-security services; enhanced energy efficiency; covered walkways for aircraft boarding; and modernizations to improve the comfort and appearance of the airport.

Design work for the project has been completed, and construction is expected to commence this summer.

“This project is critical, and we are grateful that all levels of government recognize the importance of the airport to our region’s economy,” says Johanne Gallant, president and CEO of the Fredericton International Airport Authority. “Our airport is the first impression travelers, investors and dignitaries have of our city and the last chance to reinforce the positive impression we know our capital region makes on visitors. This design reflects the importance of the Fredericton International Airport in welcoming travelers to our city and our province.”
