Artist’s Mural To Be Dedicated Today At RDU

The Triangle Area Sister Cities is dedicating a mural today by local artist Jane Filer at Raleigh-Durham International’s (RDU) Terminal 2.

“Friendly Folks” was commissioned by the TASC to help celebrate the Research Triangle Region’s relationship with 13 international cities. The painting’s theme is Sister Cities International’s slogan, “World Peace: One Friend, One Community at a Time.”

“The goal for the project was to illustrate to the traveling public the increasingly global role and responsibility of the people living in the Triangle area of North Carolina,” says Ronnie Lilley, project manager for TASC. “We also want to show how the TASC organizations work throughout the year as citizen ambassadors to promote international understanding and peace.”

The 45-foot painting shows figures in vivid colors, with birds and flowers depicting North Carolina scattered throughout; buildings representing various cultures are behind the figures.

”Art enhances our travelers’ experience, and we are pleased to feature the work of Jane Filer,” says Teresa Damiano, RDU’s director of marketing.  “We thank the Triangle Area Sister Cities for this gift to our customers.”

The piece can be found in the international arrivals baggage-claim area.
