ATL To Extend Concessions Agreements Up To Three Years

The Atlanta City Council has passed legislation to extend concessions agreements at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL) for up to 36 months. The ordinance that passed Tuesday allows the city to waive the competitive procurement source selection requirement.

The airport had planned to issue a concessions RFP this year, but the COVID-19 pandemic prompted cancellation of that initiative. With the City Council’s approval this week, ATL now plans to offer extensions of three years for concessionaires with active contracts, and extensions of 30 months for those currently operating on a month-to-month basis.

ATL has already waived minimum annual guarantee payment requirements for concessionaires through June 30, 2021. Concessionaires are still required to pay the percentage rent agreed upon in their contracts. ATL general manager John Selden recently predicted that ATL will reach 50 percent of its former traffic by May 2021.
