ATL Seeks Volunteers To Help Test New Terminal’s Readiness

The international terminal at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International (ATL) is slated to open May 16, and airport authorities need volunteers to make sure it’s ready.

About 1,500 volunteers are being sought to participate in a simulation exercise May 2 from 8:30 a.m. to noon at the Maynard H. Jackson Jr. International Terminal. The event will simulate a day of operation at the new 1.2 million sq. ft. facility.

“We want to make absolutely certain that everything is ready for opening day on May 16,” says interim Deputy General Manager Balram Bheodari. “The goal of the simulation exercise is to identify and eliminate any potential issues related to opening day.”

Anyone interested in participating must fill out a brief survey form on the terminal’s website; completed surveys must be returned to the airport via email by March 30.

Selected volunteers will be notified via email and will be asked to bring government-issued identification – passports preferred – and at least two pieces of packed luggage to be used in the baggage-handling system.

“We need a wide variety of passenger types from diverse backgrounds to really put the facility through its paces during this exercise,” says Bheodari, who heads the airport’s international terminal activation team.
