AUS Educates Passengers About Sustainability

Austin-Bergstrom International Airport (AUS) continued its Earth Day Celebrations by offering travelers the opportunity to learn how they can reduce their environmental impact. More than 10 groups participated, from airlines, to airport concessions, to Keep Austin Beautiful and Texas Disposal Systems, with booths set up throughout the Barbara Jordan Terminal.

Other participating groups included the environmental division of the aviation department, Alaska Airlines, JetBlue, Southwest Airlines, Delaware North, Paradies Lagardère, the Del Valle High School art department and the City of Austin Resource Recovery.

The event served to highlight several airport programs, including “Pour it Out” and the Good Traveler Carbon Offset Program. “Pour it Out” receptacles are stationed at checkpoint entries so that passengers can easily pour out the liquids from bottles before placing them in recycling bins. The Good Traveler Carbon Offset Program gives passengers the opportunity to purchase carbon offsets at an affordable price, thereby making air travel more sustainable.
