Clear Channel, McConnell Team Up On DTW Program

Clear Channel Airports and McConnell Communications are partnering with the Wayne County Airport Authority to create a dynamic Community Showcase Program for Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County (DTW).

The advertising program includes installing new technologies, such as kiosks that will replace old phone boards in the McNamara and North terminals, which will give passengers information about hotels, restaurants, transportation and events. The 11 digital centers will feature large-format LCDs, touch screens, dynamic local mapping, phone accessibility and CCA’s free mobile app, FLYsmart.

“By highlighting the diverse businesses and attractions of the region, Detroit Metro Airport will provide a warm welcome for visitors entering the community. Moreover, the new digital centers create unique platforms to deliver targeted messages and will maximize the value of advertisers’ investments,” says John Moyer of Clear Channel, which created the program. “There is no better way to communicate the benefits of the area to travelers – residents and visitors alike – all the while enhancing a local company’s exposure.”

Local businesses will be able to use the program to market to the airport audience, and the program also enhances passenger services.

“You can cost-effectively deliver a message to not just the 30 million tourists, vacationers and business leaders, but also their family, friends and peers,” says Darci E. McConnell, president of McConnell Communications. “This audience has the demographic profile, the resources, responsibility and education that businesses need to reach in order to succeed.”

Airport Authority Board Chair Renee Axt says, “We are always looking for new ways to enhance the airport for both travelers and our local businesses. This new technology certainly accomplishes that goal and demonstrates our commitment to leading through innovation.”

The contract is for six years, with a four-year renewal option, and allows both firms to market advertising opportunities on behalf of the WCAA at the McNamara and North terminals.
