Clear Shuts Down Operations

The company that began in 2005 offering to make airport security quicker and easier for frequent travelers has shut down.

Clear, founded by Steve Brill, ceased operations at 11:00 PST on July 22.

“Clear’s parent company, Verified Identity Pass, Inc. has been unable to negotiate an agreement with its senior creditor to continue operations,” according to Clear’s Web site, www.flyclear.com.

For an annual fee, Clear would process users’ information and give them cards to go through readers at about 20 airports nationwide.

The company, which has about 165,000 members, says on its Web site that customers will not be receiving refunds due to the company’s current economic woes.
