Concessions Chosen For New Terminal B At SMF

The Sacramento County Board of Supervisors has unanimously approved the evaluation panels’ recommendations for retail and restaurants for the new Central Terminal B when it opens late next year at Sacramento International (SMF).

“We achieved our goal to offer a unique selection of food and shopping in the new terminal,” says G. Hardy Acree, director of airports at Sacramento County Airport System, “and passengers will feel a sense of Sacramento the minute they step off the plane.”

The new terminal will feature a combination of local brands, as well as nationally recognized restaurants and stores. Companies include longtime partners at the airport, such as The Paradies Shops and HMSHost Corp., along with newcomers such as Pacific Gateway Concessions Inc. and SSP America.

SSP America received contracts for local brands Jack’s Urban Eats, Dos Coyotes and Cafeteria 15L, and Peet’s Coffee on the airside concourse, and The Gateway Bar, Camden Food Co. and Old Soul Coffee Co., a local brand, landside.

Local restaurateurs Griselda Barajas, Bobbin Mulvaney and Mason Wong each hold a 10% interest in a newly formed joint venture with SSP. Local restaurateurs Tony Babcock and Greg Virga of Jack’s Urban Eats and Bobby Coyote of Dos Coyotes will be closely tied to the airport quick service versions of their streetside restaurants.

“Sacramento is a great restaurant town with an authentic culinary culture that reflects the people who call it home,” says Les Cappetta, president and CEO of SSP America. “We are delighted to be working in partnership with Sacramento International Airport to bring the ‘true taste’ of this beautiful region to the passengers of the equally stunning new Central Terminal B.”

HMSHost brands will include Starbucks and local brands Esquire Grill and Burgers and Brew in the airside concourse.   Local restaurateurs Randy Paragary of Esquire Grill and Derek Zawaydeh of Burgers and Brew will be directly involved to ensure that the airport locations provide the same quality food and service as their Sacramento streetside locations.

“We are extremely proud to bring Esquire Grill, Burgers and Brew, and Starbucks to the new terminal,” says Joe Waller, vice president of business development for HMSHost. “Esquire Grill is a Sacramento institution. With exceptional food and a beautiful design it will be the perfect destination for travelers to relax with a great meal and a glass of California wine or a custom cocktail. Likewise, Burgers and Brew is a trendsetter in the Sacramento restaurant scene, known for its fresh ingredients and innovative menu. And, of course, Starbucks is the number one coffee location in the world and the first stop for many Sacramento travelers.”

Other food and beverage contracts went to Famiglia-DeBartolo LLC for Famous Famiglia Italian and Taste Inc. for Vino Volo, both in the airside concourse.

The Paradies Shops won several retail contracts, such as Good Day Sacramento, InMotion Entertainment, Lacoste, Brighton, Healthy Living and Visions of Eden, a locally owned specialty gift and home accessories store from Old Sacramento, all in the airside concourse. Landside terminal concepts include CNBC News and Experience Sacramento.

“The Paradies Shops has enjoyed its partnership with Sacramento International Airport since 1998,” says Gregg Paradies, president and CEO. “We are thrilled to be selected for the retail concessions program and look forward to offering great national brands such as CNBC and introducing shops with local appeal such as Visions of Eden and Good Day Sacramento.”

Pacific Gateway Concessions LLC dba PGC Sacramento JV won an airside concourse location for U.S. News and World Report and a landside terminal location for The Sacramento Bee/Eco Grounds by Java City.

“Pacific Gateway Concessions LLC, a 100% California-owned company in a joint venture with Skyview Concessions as their ACDBE partner, are delighted to be awarded two locations in the new terminal,” says Roderick McOwan, executive vice president of PGC, and Apryl Stewart, President of Skyview Concessions.

Other retail concepts include one airside concourse location each for Brookstone Co. Inc. and Erwin Pearl Inc.

Contract negotiations have begun with the selected operators. Construction on the new concessions is expected to begin in mid-2011.
