Estimates Peg Restoration Costs At $25M For Tornado-Damaged STL

It will cost $25M to $30M to restore facilities at Lambert-St. Louis International (STL) that were damaged by a tornado system two months ago.

The construction estimates received by the airport and the city of St. Louis relate to the restoration of Terminal 1 and Concourse C, which sustained extensive damage by the F-4 tornado system. Concourse C remains closed.

When business interruptions, emergency repairs and revenue losses are calculated by the airport’s insurance carrier, STL expects the total losses to be even higher.

Earlier this month, Director Rhonda Hamm-Niebruegge told the St. Louis Airport Commission that the restoration effort will take nine months to a year.

“We realize how important it is for our community to have our airport fully restored as quickly as possible,” Hamm-Niebruegge says. “We are still looking at every opportunity to shorten the time frame, however, at this point we don’t know if that will be possible.”

Some construction contracts are out for bid for the restoration.
