Labor and materials costs, as well as other challenges unique to airports, can increase the build-out expenses for operators. In the first of a four-part series about catering to specific traveler groups, ARN examines what airports, concessionaires and services providers are doing to enhance the experience for “mature” passengers. The minimum wage debate rages on in 2015, and airport workers continue to be one focus of the debate. Specialty stand-alone candy stores are gaining prominence in airports, as they appeal to customers of all ages. Portland International is about to make its already local concessions program even more so.
