Hindus Praise SFO For Opening Yoga Room

San Francisco International (SFO) has launched a Yoga Room at the airport, and Hindus are welcoming the gesture.

Rajan Zed, president of the Universal Society of Hinduism, in a statement urged other airports to build such a room for passengers so they could help reduce stress levels and be “world-class” airports. He says although Hinduism introduced yoga, it has a world heritage and liberation powerhouse that should be used by all.

An airport release states that this “first of its kind Yoga Room” in Terminal 2 “affords visitors the opportunity to easily step into a space devoted to contemplation and self-reflection” and provides “travelers the opportunity and space to relax and decompress on their own terms.” The room is painted blue with low light levels, and its “floating wall symbolizes a buoyant spirit and enlightened mind.” Directional signs for SFO’s Yoga Room use a pictogram of a stylized image of a person in the Lotus position.
