MAC Approves $240M Parking Ramp At MSP

The Metropolitan Airports Commission approved construction of a $240 million, 11- story parking ramp at Minneapolis- St. Paul International (MSP). The contract is the largest ever awarded by the MAC.

The facility was approved in December 2016 as part of the MAC’s 2017 Capital Improvements Projects list back. PCL Construction was awarded the bid for the new ramp after a competitive process.

The decision follows years of planning and will help prevent drivers being diverted to other locations on those occasions when the existing ramps at Terminal 1 reach capacity. The new ramp will also provide additional capacity for rental car operations.

The project will include relocating the rental car ready/return areas from the red and blue parking ramps; constructing a new transit center/rental car customer service building, all vertical circulation, entrance and exit helixes all within the new structure; and all associated utilities, lighting, landscaping, signage, roadways, and security features.

This project also includes electric vehicle chargers, updates to the exterior structure and extending an underground walkway to serve the future expansion of the ramp.

Work related to the new ramp’s construction is currently underway at the site of the former exit plaza at Terminal 1. The ramp is expected to be completed by 2020.
