PHL Launches Monthlong Holiday Celebration

Philadelphia International (PHL) is celebrating the holidays throughout the month of December.

Travelers will be entertained by musicians and ensembles, choral groups, strolling Victorian carolers, a Klezmer band during Hanukkah, an African dance and drum ensemble during Kwanzaa and a mummer-style band to ring in the new year.

Passengers of any age can give their Christmas wish list to and have their picture taken with a strolling Sand Claus. They can take their own photos in Santa’s sleigh in Terminal A-East or his thrown in Terminal D; they are then encouraged to upload them to the airport’s Flickr page.

From 1 to 3 p.m. Dec. 19, artist Kay Healy will demonstrate a Trapunto quilt process at the Terminal E exhibition case.

The airport’s retail locations also are getting into the act. Participating stores in the B/C and D/E Connectors will be promoting gift items on tables outside their stores; in addition, customers who buy $200 of merchandise at airport retail shops will receive a free Leaf Necklace at the Fire & Ice store on the B/C Connector through Dec. 24 or while supplies last.

The Roster store, which offers contemporary and vintage-style apparel of the Philadelphia professional sports teams, is hosting a Tailgate Toss at its B/C Connector location Dec. 7 and 13; there will be a bean-bag toss, giveaways and coupons, and food samples.  

And for shoppers who make purchases at the airport, PHL is offering free gift wrapping. Consumers can take their purchases to a table set up on the B/C Connector from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily through Dec. 23, and 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Dec. 24.

“The holiday season is a special time, and we enjoy taking the holiday spirit and spreading it to travelers and the entire airport community,” says Airport CEO Mark Gale. “This is a fun time to be here with so many exciting activities going on. We want to wish everybody safe travels, happy holidays and best wishes for a happy and prosperous new year.”
