ReCharge Zones Help LAS Travelers; Sponsorship Helps Airport

McCarran International (LAS) has found a way to help travelers keep their electronics equipment charged, at no cost to them, and bring in revenue at the same time.

Nine ReCharge Zones can be found throughout the terminals, each with barstool-style seating, a work counter and power outlets. They can be used for cell phones, laptops, handheld video game systems, or portable music or video players.

An additional four or five ReCharge Zones will arrive in Terminal 1, thanks to a partnership with Alliance Airport Advertising, which handles the static advertising at LAS. The company negotiated a sponsorship with Verizon Wireless worth $1M over two years, 85% of which will go toward the airport’s operational and capital expenditures.

“McCarran has long been recognized as an industry leader for its efforts to use technologies to improve operations, particularly customer service,” says Randall H. Walker, director of the Clark County Department of Aviation. “Given that approach, it made perfect sense that we’d find an innovative way to take care of our customers’ rising need for power sources while also tapping a new, outside-the-box source of revenue.”
