SITA Installs Airport iQueue At Clinton National

Bill and Hillary Clinton National (LIT) has partnered with SITA on a technology aimed at streamlining security processing at the airport.

The Airport iQueue system uses real-time signals from passengers’ Wi-Fi and Bluetooth-enabled devices to measure the length of time it takes passengers to pass through the LIT’s security checkpoints.

Airport iQueue detects passengers’ devices to measure wait times from the checkpoint entry to the exit. Separate measurements can be gathered for main, priority, PreCheck and crew. The information can be used to manage resources and reduce bottlenecks.

“It’s an excellent quality-assurance tool that measures the total experience, not just queue waiting, with the information shared with [the Transportation Security Administration], airlines and the airport’s governing body for appropriate follow-up,” says Ronald Mathieu, executive director at LIT.

The technology is common at European airports, but LIT is an early adopter of the SITA technology in the U.S. SITA is a specialist in air transport communications and technology solutions.

“Waiting at the security checkpoint is the No. 1 source of frustration for passengers when flying,” says Paul Houghton, president of SITA’s Americas region. “We at SITA have developed Airport iQueue to help reduce that frustration. Now, the management team at the airport has actionable information that can be used to better manage resources and reduce congestion.”
