STL Expands Alternative Fuels Program

Lambert-St. Louis International (STL) had made an addition to its alternative fuels program.

It is offering new public vehicle charging stations and is using new electric vehicles for its parking operations.

Owners of electric vehicles can park at Super Park Lot A, across from Terminal 1, and get a free charge during the stay. Five charging stations have been added to the lot, which offers free shuttle service to Terminals 1 and 2.

STL also has purchased four compact GEM electric vehicles for its Super Park operations, including two terminal garages and four long-term lots. The vehicles will be used for routine lot patrols and maintenance operations. They have an on-board 72-volt DC charger that plugs into a standard 110-volt AC 15 amp outlet, and cost about 50% less than previous vehicles operated for the same uses.

“The addition of new vehicle charging stations is a direct response to customer demand and we’re glad we can support our customers who want to plug in while they park,” says Lambert Director Rhonda Hamm-Niebruegge. “On the airport’s side, we’re plugging in, too. This means great savings up front in new vehicle costs as well as all the benefits of using a cleaner source of energy to operate these vehicles in the years to come.”
