STL Opens 2nd Cell Phone Waiting Lot

Lambert-St. Louis International (STL) has opened a second cell phone lot, this one inside the Air Cargo complex on the north side of Air Cargo Road, about 1/3-mile east of Terminal 2.

The new lot holds 60 spaces and is open daily from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m.

“The additional cell phone lot is a welcomed solution to a positive trend for Lambert with an overall increase in passenger activity this year and two additional airlines now operating at Terminal 2,” says Director Rhonda Hamm-Niebruegge. “Passenger pick-up zones are for active loading only, so we encourage the use of both of Lambert’s cell phone lots to ease garage parking and traffic congestion in front of the terminals.”

The airport’s first cell phone lot, which opened in 2007, is a mile west of Terminal 1 off of Lambert International Boulevard. Motorists can wait in either lot, free of charge, for arriving passengers; once passengers arrive, they can call the waiting drivers to meet them at the terminal.

Hilboldt Curtainwall Inc. of St. Louis, Mo., has been awarded the Terminal 1 Curtain Wall Glazing Replacement contract as part of the airport’s recovery efforts from a tornado April 22.

“The restoration of the windows in the historic Terminal 1 is a very important and highly visible project for Lambert and the city of St. Louis,” says Hamm-Niebruegge.

The certified Women’s Business Enterprise company will replace more than 300 panes of glass in the terminal’s ticketing lobby that were destroyed by the twister. The $900,000 project will involve more than 15,500 sq. ft. of new glass being installed within the original floor-to-ceiling window framing. It is expected to be completed in November.

“We were particularly interested in the reglazing of Terminal 1 since my father-in-law, Jack Hilboldt, did the original glazing when he ran Stanley Hanks Glass Co.,” says owner Jane Hilboldt.
