Terminal Expansion Progressing At Calgary International

More than 6.9 million hours of manpower have been spent on the International Terminal at Calgary International (YYC), a project airport officials say will double the current airport facility’s size and elevate the passenger experience.

To this point, all major structural steel has been installed, as has 95 percent of a total 385 miles of radiant tubing. Granite flooring installation and wood ceiling paneling are both more than half installed, and new baggage-handling equipment is more than 80 percent installed.

The Calgary Airport Authority announced this week that it is adding several new elements to its Airport Development Program, including improved connections between international, transborder and domestic sections of the airport. The authority is constructing a secure airside corridor to move passengers between those facilities without having to recheck their bags and also is working on a similar connection to the new international terminal.

“Working with regulators and airlines, we are able to integrate new processes for the 30 percent of travelers that use YYC as their connecting airport,” says Garth Atkinson, president and CEO. “These new processes will allow our passengers to easily transit to all destinations that are available from Calgary International Airport.”
