Travelers Encouraged To Have Just Plane Fun At PHL

Philadelphia International (PHL) wants its passengers to have Just Plane Fun.

The summerlong program, a mix of special events and activities, kicked off June 20 with visits from the famed Tuskegee Airman, a DJ, performance by a Mummers-style string band, Kirby the Krimpet from Tastykake and Herr’s mascot, Chipper.

The event gave passengers an idea of what they can expect to find at the airport throughout the summer: live entertainment, food and beverage samplings, artist demonstrations and children’s activities, as well as education and informational displays. For those who just want to relax, there is the Chillin’ Zone, a living room-style area where travelers can sit on a cushioned seat and put their feet up while they wait for their flight. The Chillin’ Zone is in two locations: Terminal A-East, across from the information counter, and the Terminal D/E Connector, between the Life is good and Mindworks stores; it will move to various locations throughout the summer.

Just Plane Fun runs through Sept. 7, ending with a raffle drawing for prizes. All summer, ticketed passengers can fill out entry forms, available at all post-security airport information counters. Prizes include airline tickets, courtesy of Alaska Airlines, Southwest Airlines, Virgin America and US Airways; Visa gift cards, courtesy of Avis/Budget Rent-A-Car; gift cards for Airport shops, courtesy of Marketplace Philadelphia; I Pads, courtesy of Enterprise Rent-A-Car; one night stay at the Airport Marriott Hotel, courtesy of the Airport Marriott Hotel; a Sonos music system, courtesy of Clear Channel Airports an overnight stay at the Philadelphia Courtyard Marriott and two Philadelphia Passes for Philadelphia attractions courtesy of Independence Visitor Center and a Philadelphia International Airport rocking chair, courtesy of Philadelphia International. More information on the raffle is on the airport’s website, www.phl.org.

“Summer is always a busy time for travel, and Just Plane Fun is our way of making our customers’ time at the airport more pleasant and relaxing, and also to thank them for choosing Philadelphia International Airport,” says airport CEO Mark Gale, who helped kick off the event. “Just Plane Fun was very well received the past two summers, and we are excited to offer it for the third year in a row. The program could not be successful without the participation of many airport tenants, airlines and associates, and I would like to thank all of them for their continued commitment to great customer service at our airport.”
