U.S. Airports Lead In Global In-Terminal Wi-Fi Report

San Francisco International Airport (SFO) has the fastest free in-terminal Wi-Fi in the world, according to a new report from Ookla Insights that also found U.S. airports held the top four slots in terms of internet speeds for passengers.

SFO had a median download speed of 176.25 Mbps (Megabits per second) during Q1 2022, followed Seattle-Tacoma International Airport (SEA) at 171.01 Mbps, Dallas Fort Worth International Airport (DFW) 113.64 Mbps, and Chicago O’Hare International Airport (ORD) 85.49 Mbps.

Dubai International (DXB), Hartsfield–Jackson Atlanta International (ATL), Amsterdam Airport Schiphol (AMS), and Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) airports followed on the list of fastest free Wi-Fi for passengers.

Ookla Insights found that four of the bottom five airports on our list were in China. Shanghai Hongqiao International Airport (SHA) was faster than the other Chinese airports on the list with a median download speed of 14.69 Mbps, followed by Shenzhen Bao’an International (SZX) and Beijing Capital International (PEK) and Chengdu Shuangliu International (CTU) airports.

Mexico City International Airport (MEX) had the slowest median download and upload speeds over free airport Wi-Fi of any airport on this list, the report found.
