Westfield Unveils Vision For LAX T2, Releases Competitive Evaluation Process

Westfield Concessions Management held a public outreach event Feb. 11 to discuss the redevelopment of Los Angeles International’s (LAX) Terminals 2 and 6. The event drew more than 600 local, national and Airport Concessionaire Disadvantaged Business Enterprise businesses. Late afternoon Feb. 12, Westfield released the Competitive Evaluation Process document that details points such as background on the airport, the opportunities, design criteria and submission information for Terminal 2.

“We are excited by the tremendous response from local, national and international shops, restaurants and entrepreneurs who are interested in being a part of the transformation of Terminals 2 and 6,” says Dominic Lowe, executive vice president of Westfield LLC. “We look forward to continuing to work with Los Angeles World Airports to bring the best of L.A. and the world into LAX to wow millions of travelers from around the world.”

According to the CEP, Terminal 2, which in 2013 saw 5.5 million total passengers, will feature more than 16,000 square feet of new concessions, 11,000 of which will be food. The opportunities are broken up into six packages of multiple units that include concepts ranging from quick-service to full-service sit down restaurant to a specialty bar for food, and technology to travel essentials to specialty for retail. Though there are 16 airlines flying out of the terminal, four will be relocating to the Tom Bradley International Terminal. Some of the  airlines serving Terminal 2 are Aeromexico, Air Canada, Air China, Hawaiian Airlines and Virgin Atlantic.

Westfield outlined its design vision for Terminal 2, listing design features such as a stairway leading to a mezzanine level, textured materials and finishes, lounges providing connectivity for recharging electronics and accented lounge seating.

The Los Angeles-based developer also provided a list of key dates:

Written questions to Westfield from Proposers are due Feb. 26. Answers to those questions will be posted March 12. CEP proposals are due by 12:00 p.m. PST March 26. Notification of awards will be May 14 and 15.

As for Terminal 6, more than 8 million passengers traveled through there in 2013. Westfield reveals that there will be more than 19,000 square feet of new food and retail. Among the carriers in the terminal are Alaska Airlines, Copa Airlines, Great Lakes Airlines and United Airlines. The CEP for Terminal 6 will be issued sometime in the second quarter of this year.

Westfield was awarded the contract to oversee food, beverage and retail operations in the airport’s TBIT, the Theme Building, and Terminals 1, 2, 3 and 6. TBIT opened last summer.

More than 66 million passengers travel through LAX annually.
