BWI To Expand Concourse E

The Maryland Board of Public Works has unanimously approved plans to expand and improve Concourse E at Baltimore Washington International Thurgood Marshall (BWI).

The $60 million contract is for Whiting-Turner Contracting Co. to build a three-level, 70,000-square-foot extension to the concourse, which serves all the airport’s international flights. The project will add six new gates – two full-service gates with hold rooms and four arrival-only gates. The initial construction schedule projects that the new gates will be on line by summer 2018.

Other aspects of the project include a new electrical substation, added restroom facilities, new mechanical and electrical support spaces, an extension of the sterile corridor system to connect to the federal inspection station and space for additional baggage make-up operations.

“This next phase of terminal development will ensure BWI Marshall has the capacity to support growing international service,” said Ricky Smith, CEO of BWI.
