LAS, Samsung Partner To Bring Video Walls To Airport

The Clark County Board of Commissioners has approved a deal between McCarran International (LAS) and Samsung under which the company will provide 130 46-inch LCD screens engineered to create four video walls at the airport.

“McCarran has a reputation in the industry for harnessing the power of technology to enhance customer service,” said Director of Aviation Randall H. Walker. “The dynamic nature of this landmark digital video network will allow us to communicate information to our customers in an eye-catching format.”

LAS will be the first airport to feature a video wall of its kind once it comes to fruition later this year. The largest display will be installed at the D Concourse rotunda; the 100-screen tiled formation will be the largest in a domestic airport at 33 feet by 19 feet, Samsung officials say. Three smaller video walls will each use 10 screens to create displays measuring 6 feet by 9 feet in the A, B and C concourses.

The LCDs cost more than $570,000 and will be branded by Samsung.

“Samsung is a world leader in display technology and we saw this as a great opportunity to display our product in a world-class airport that attracts visitors from around the world,” says Doug Albregts, vice president of sales and marketing at Samsung Electronics America. “We are proud to partner with McCarran International Airport and showcase our innovative video wall.”

The partnership is largely due to efforts of Alliance Airport Advertising, including drafting plans for the engineering and installing the final digital video network. Each display will show paid advertising and airport messaging; the video walls are expected to generate $500,000 in annual advertising revenue for the airport.

“This project has taken hundreds of hours of research and collaboration between Samsung, McCarran, Alliance and the multiple contractors who will design, build, install and operate this system,” says Shauna Forsythe, CEO of Alliance. “We applaud McCarran’s forward vision in tapping Samsung for this project. The quality and clarity of our new digital advertising network will surpass anything in the industry.”
