SAN Achieves LEED Gold Certification

The San Diego County Regional Airport Authority was awarded a Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Gold rating by the U.S. Green Building Council for the airport’s maintenance facility. This is the first LEED certification for the Airport Authority.

“We are proud to receive the LEED Gold rating,” said Thella F. Bowens, President/CEO of the Airport Authority. “As one of the first airports in the nation to enact a sustainability policy, this achievement is a significant step in a path we’ve been on for several years. This LEED Gold designation helps show the community how seriously we’re committed to environmental improvements, and we hope this is the first of many LEED ratings for the airport.”

As part of its commitment to sustainable practices, the Airport Authority will continue to seek certification on all future construction projects.  The airport’s largest construction project, The Green Build, is working to achieve the same certification.
