SSP, Hudson, HMSHost And Stellar Partners Win PHX Contracts

The Phoenix City Council has approved new retail and dining contracts for concessions in Terminal 3 of Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport (PHX). Four packages were awarded: Proposals from HMSHost Corp. and SSP America were approved for food and beverage contracts, and bids from Hudson Group-led HG PHX T3 Retailers 2017 JV and Stellar Retail Group PHX LLC were approved for new retail options.

PHX said many of the new stores and restaurants will open in late 2018 or early 2019 as the new South Concourse comes on stream, and the remaining will open in 2020 when renovations to the North Concourse are complete.

SSP America will open 11 restaurants in the renovated Terminal 3, including Peet’s Coffee, a locally operated coffee shop; Tru Burger Co., a specialty burger restaurant; national brand Habit Burger Grill; and Leoni’s Focaccia sandwich shop.

Local and regional brands from SSP include Christopher’s Crush, a concept from James Beard award winner Chef Christopher Gross; Original ChopShop; The Tavern from Phoenix Chef Mark Tarbell; Uberrito Fresh Mex; Phoenix Ale Brewery Central Kitchen, Ajo Al’s Mexican Cafe; and Crave Grounds, a local coffee and donut shop.

HMSHost will bring seven concepts to PHX Terminal 3, including four local concepts: The Parlor, featuring pizza and pasta; Mustache Pretzel; Postino; and Joyride Taco House.

National brands from HMSHost joining the lineup are Starbucks, Shake Shack and Panera Bread.

Hudson Group-led HG PHX T3 Retailers 2017 JV will open seven retail concepts in the new terminal, including Passage by Hudson; Johnston & Murphy; Discover Arizona; Tech on the Go-House of Marley; Indigenous/Mosaic; Tech on the Go-Sony; and Ironwood by Hudson with Giant Coffee, a combination newsstand and coffee shop.

Stellar Retail Group PHX LLC will also combine a newsstand and coffee concept with its Stellar News + Market – with Starbucks. Stellar will also offer Best of the Valley, L’Occitane, Sol Shades, Lolli and Pops, Travel Outfitters and InMotion Entertainment.

Terminal 3 is in the process of a three-part modernization effort. The first component opened in December 2015, with a larger, consolidated security checkpoint, expanded ticket-counter areas and other amenities. The second component is slated to open in late 2018/early 2019 and will provide an all-new South Concourse. The final phase, which is expected to be completed in 2020, will include a renovated North Concourse.
