STL To Go Completely Smoke Free In January

The city and county of St. Louis, Mo., are going smoke free Jan. 2, and Lambert-St. Louis International (STL) will be part of the movement.

“For many visitors, the airport represents their first and last impressions of our city,” says Mayor Francis Slay. “By banning smoking indoors, we show that St. Louis is a forward-thinking city committed to the health of its residents and visitors. I’m proud to say that our airport will be smoke free in the very near future.”

The airport is owned by the city of St. Louis but located in St. Louis County. Both are implementing non-smoking ordinances next year. Airport smoking lounges will close to the public Jan. 2 and eventually be removed.

“We have posted signs on the smoking lounges to let users know of the airport’s move to become a smoke-free facility,” says Lambert Director Rhonda Hamm-Niebruegge. “Smoking will be allowed outside of the terminals, but in a few designated areas only beginning in January.”
